The Carlisle Elementary and Middle School PTO invite the public to attend their annual carnival this Friday.
Lauren McKinley, vice president of the Carlisle PTO, said volunteers have been working on the event for months.
“It’s our annual fall carnival,” McKinley said. “It is open to anyone not just the people from school.”
They will have several games with prizes that children can win in the carnival games offered. Games and food will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
“We a dunking booth for our popular teachers to be in,” McKinley said.
There will also be food such as hamburgers and hot dogs.
“We are going to have good carnival food but done on our scale,” McKinley said. “We will have some lemon shake-ups this year and cotton candy, popcorn, pretzels nachos and those kinds of things.”
As people arrive, they will need to get tickets to participate.
“We use tickets for everything,” McKinley said. “Once they buy tickets, they will use them to buy food and tickets to enter into raffles and tickets for all of the games and things.”
For the raffles, there will be several baskets that are themed for people to try to win.
“Grades K through second provide a basket, and grades third through fifth and also grades sixth through eighth,” McKinley said. “Basically each hallway will provide a raffle basket that people can enter in to win.”
The office staff and the PTO also provide a basket. Each basket will have a theme such as game night or a sports parent theme. Raffle winners do not have to be present to win.
“We end the night with a huge game of musical chairs,” McKinley said. “The winner will get a prize which is a Visa gift card. Generally, everyone that is there plays.”
Carlisle PTO believes they have the biggest musical chair game in the county. The musical chairs start at 8 p.m. and then raffle winners will be announced after that last game.
“We have been receiving sponsors for these chairs,” McKinley said. “We sent out a letter and sometimes we have businesses that sponsor a chair and other times we have students and families and individuals in the community.”
When playing the game of musical chairs, people will notice the sponsor signs on each chair as they play.
“We like to end the night with that and it is a lot of fun,” McKinley said. “I think we are going to have a DJ, this year, too so we are going to have a lot of music going and announcing. … It is a really fun event for our school, and it is a very fun event for the community.”
The event is outside in the bus lot, weather permitting, next to the playground at the elementary school. The last couple of years it has been successful, McKinley said and she thinks the students really enjoy the event as well.
“We did it last year there and it was a big success,” McKinley said. “So we are hoping to continue that this year."
