UPDATED: Sullivan County hosts 4-H Open House on Monday
There will be a 4-H Open House from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday in the Extension Office at the Sullivan County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The sign-up deadline for those planning to have their children in 4-H is Jan. 15 and the cost is only $15. The Sullivan County 4-H Fairgrounds is located at 1362 E. CR 75N near Sullivan.
“To me, 4-H is fun, hands-on learning that helps kids decide their interests so there are experiences that could lead to a hobby or a career,” Cheryl Casselman, Sullivan County extension educator, said. “4-H is striving to develop young people who are engaged and informed citizens.”
At the open house, it will include a rocket launch, games and demonstrations of 4-H project areas such as photography, scrapbooking, foods, sewing, basketball, crops, cake and cupcake decorating, health, animals and more.
“There are many opportunities for good experiences in 4-H as well as learning experiences,” Casselman said. “There are many, many 4-H projects and there are a few added every year.”
Purdue Extension staff members will help families enroll in 4-H online and answer questions during this event.
“We will have 4-H leaders, 4-Hers and volunteers will all be there,” Casselman. “Specific questions can be asked about different areas or just in general what is 4-H.”
From summer camp to scholarships and awards, this will be the perfect opportunity to talk with 4-H leaders, 4-Hers and other 4-H volunteers about the fun and educational opportunities 4-H offers.
“There are families who have several generations of 4-Hers in Sullivan County,” Casselman said. “It is a really strong program.”
