SWSC trustees open new year with appointments, annual requirements

Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday night, Sullivan Circuit Court Judge Robert Hunley, left, administers the oath of office to two recently elected trustees: Jerry Wilson, middle, who has previously served on the board, and newcomer Mike Eslinger.
In a relatively quick succession of votes, the Southwest School Corp. Board of Trustees took care of first-of-the-year business as it reorganized.
Their meeting Wednesday opened with the swearing-in ceremony for recently elected members, current board member Jerry Wilson and newcomer Mike Eslinger — both were elected in November.
The board wasted little time after the swearings in to appoint officers and personnel: Wilson, board president; Barb Rotramel, board vice president; John Bobbitt, board secretary; Michelle Hazelrigg, SWSC treasurer; Tracy Vandergriff, SWSC deputy treasurer; and Katie Springer, board counsel.
The trustees also approved the board’s monthly meeting times, which remained unchanged from the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.
In other business:
• The board agreed to a meeting with Jeff Justice and other representatives of Hafer Associates on Jan 17 to discuss capital projects being scheduled for the corporation.
“We’ve borrowed a lot of money to make improvements …” said SWSC Superintendent Chris Stitzle.
The board also approved plans to bid for restroom upgrades in preparation for that meeting.
• The trustees approved publishing the corporation’s annual performance report. Stitzle noted this would be done sometime in February.
• The board approved a property casualty insurance plan through Wright Risk Management.
The cost is $152,746, up from $140,249 last year, largely due to an increase in workers’ compensation rates.
