Ladybirds lose at Linton
Host Linton pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the host Lady Miners defeated North Central 1-0 in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference softball game on Tuesday.
The Miners improved to 2-0 in the SWIAC while North Central lost its first conference game (2-1).
Ashlynn Ferree was the winning pitcher. She allowed three hits. She struck out two and walked one.
Erika Shroyer was the tough-luck loser for the Ladybirds. She allowed just four hits and no earned runs. She struck out five and walked one.
On offense, Hannah Shroyer had two hits and Erika Shroyer added a single.
The hosts defeated North Central 3-0 in the junior varsity contest.
Before the Loogootee at North Central softball game at noon on Saturday, four title winning teams will be honored.
The sectional championship teams from 1986, 2003 and 2008 and the 2006 state finalist squad will be recognized.
“We are inviting all alumni and their families to come out enjoy the festivities,” said current North Central softball coach Erica Arnold. “We will unveil new signs along our outfield fence commemorating these teams.
“We are also providing a meal.”
She added that T-shirts to honor all the conference and tournament championship teams will be available for purchase in advance, with the design coming soon.
Festivities are set to begin at 11 a.m.
