Sullivan tops North Central in first Challenge Cup
In the inaugural Sullivan Daily Times North Central-Sullivan Softball Challenge Cup, the host Lady Arrows defeated North Central 4-1 in a non-conference game on Thursday night.
North Central lost for just the sixth time in 24 games as its 10-game winning streak was snapped.
Sullivan, who improved to 19-5, managed eight hits off of losing pitcher Erika Shroyer.
Sullivan scored once in the third and fourth innings and added two in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
Kaelee Moody hit a sole home run for North Central to account for their scoring in the sixth inning.
Madison Schofield, Shroyer, Hannah Simmons, Morgan Manning, Hannah Lewis and Hailey Salyer had singles for North Central.
Shroyer struck out two and walked one. She allowed three earned runs.
For the Lady Arrows, McKenzie Pirtle scattered seven to earn the victory. She struck out none and walked two.
She helped her own cause with a hit and RBI.
Asia Povlin had a single and scored a run.
Carly Brown went 2-for-2 with a double, one run and drove in one run.
Maclynne Steele was 1-for-3 with an RBI as did Ashley Durall.
Megan Eberhardt drove in one run as a result of a sacrifice fly. She also scored a run.
Reagan Holeman, freshman, had one hit and scored one run.
North Central won the JV game 8-6 as Carlee Zellers and Sarah Shake each drove in two runs.
Whitnee Newby had two hits and scored a run.
North Central will play at Northview today while Sullivan will play at Riverton Parke today. Both games are set to begin at 5 p.m. Sullivan will conclude the regular season at Vincennes Lincoln at 11 a.m. Saturday with the varsity playing first.
