The Sullivan High School girls golf team earned its first victory, defeating host South Vermilion 222-243 in a match at Geneva Hills on Tuesday.
Senior Gabby Burkhart shot a career-low 42, pacing the winners.
“Gabby played exceptionally well,” said Sullivan coach Justin Ridge. “She has only shot 50 once or twice.
“She hits the ball well, but sometimes has trouble putting. She putted well and was very excited about her score.”
Carsyn Wayland fired a 55, Courtney Lueking 58, Kolbi Mahurin 67 and Cara Gofourth 68.
“‘It was good to get our first win,”‘ Ridge said of improving to 1-2. “‘We have a lot of young girls who are still learning this game, which is not easy.”‘
Sullivan will face West Vigo at Rea Park today, starting at 4:30 p.m.
