Sullivan wins at Bloomfield
Sullivan earned a road win Tuesday night in Greene County.
The Golden Arrows defeated Bloomfield 51-48 at Glover Gymnasium.
The Arrows, who played without Ike Chastain (broken foot) and Sam Steimel (illness) improved to 15-5 while Bloomfield slipped to 13-8.
After missing six of its first eight free throws, Sullivan made 3 of 4 in the final 18 seconds.
Kevin Figg, who finished with 14 points and five steals, scored six in the fourth quarter, including two freebies as Sullivan led 50-45.
Then Shane Garner, who tallied seven points, made 1 of 2 as Sullivan held on for the win.
Bloomfield used a 10-0 run in the first quarter, taking a 10-8 lead.
A two-pointer by Ty Drake put the Arrows ahead at 12-10. They led 17-15 after the opening quarter.
Bloomfield led 21-19, but Sullivan closed the first half on a 9-4 spurt, taking a 28-25 lead at intermission.
Garner hit a 3-pointer as the Arrows went ahead 31-27 with 3 1/2 minutes to play in the third quarter.
Ben Pirtle got behind the Bloomfield defense for a layup, putting the visitors ahead 36-27.
Jackson Shake, who led the Arrows with 16 points, including three 3-pointers, drilled a trey at the buzzer as Sullivan extended its lead to 39-29 at the end of three quarters.
The Arrows led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter, but Bloomfield cut the SHS lead to 48-45 in the final seconds.
Drake had 11 points as he made a 3-pointer.
Pirtle finished with two points.
Sullivan forced Bloomfield into 18 turnovers and only committed seven.
The Arrows won the JV game 36-35 as Aaron Drake’s shot hung on the rim and fill in at the buzzer.
Sullivan will play its final home game of the season Friday night against Robinson, Illinois.
They will play Tuesday at Terre Haute South and conclude the regular season on Feb 23 at Linton.
