Lady Bulldogs drop two at WRV
The Dugger Union softball team dropped a doubleheader at White River Valley on Friday.
In the opener, the Lady Bulldogs lost 7-1 and the host Lady Wolverines won game two 11-10 in eight innings.
“In the first game, we did not hit the ball very well,” said Dugger Union coach Darrin Grissom. “We only had four hits and one run in the game.
“Errors and mental mistakes cost us. Rainy Kinnard pitched the whole game and took the loss.”
Dugger scored nine runs in its final two at bats in game two, tying the contest at 10-all.
“In the second game. our bats finally came alive in the sixth and seventh innings,” said Grissom. “We were down 10-1 going into the sixth when we started hitting the ball.
“Molly Pittman and Mia Marlow each doubled and Shoni Dinkins had a home run to get us going in the sixth. In the seventh, we were down 10-4 and we scored six runs to tie the game and send it to extra innings. Unfortunately we could not score in the top of the eighth and another miscue helped WRV get a runner on who would eventually score the winning run.”
Grissom said it was a sad ending to a great comeback.
“Pittman and Marlow each were 3-for-5 in the second game and Dinkins was 2-for-5 including the home run,” said Grissom.
“Madison Marlow pitched the second game and took the loss.”
Dugger Union’s game with Deaf School was rained out on Saturday.
