Ladybirds earn win at North Knox
BICKNELL — North Central played almost a flawless softball game, defeating host North Knox 13-0 in a nonconference high school game on Wednesday.
With winds gusting in excess of 40 miles per hour, North Central was flawless in the field.
Second baseman Marissa Miller came up with two running catches, defying the breezy conditions.
Erika Shroyer tossed a six-hitter as she picked up the win inside the circle.
She struck out nine and issued just one walk.
North Knox never had a runner reach second base.
The offense came up with 16 hits, finally chasing North Knox pitcher Caymen Strain in the seventh inning.
They also capitalized on seven errors by the 5-3 Lady Warriors.
North Central shortstop Madison Schofield finished with two triples and two singles. She came up with three runs and two RBIs.
Brooklin Klitzing drove in Schofield with the first run on a sacrifice bunt.
North Central had hits by Schofield, Hannah Shroyer and Morgan Manning, aided by three errors, as they scored three runs in the second, taking a 5-0 advantage.
Carlee Zellers reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a base hit by Schofield as the lead reached 6-0.
North Central scored seven runs in their final two at bats. Klitzing grounded out and picked up an RBI as Schofield scored after her second triple.
Jocelyn Cox and Hannah Shroyer each singled and scored on errors as the Ladybirds went ahead 9-0 in the sixth.
In the seventh, North Central closed out things with four runs. Klitzing picked up another hit and Cox got aboard on an infield single.
Hannah Shroyer then drove both of them home with a base hit.
Kylee Moody singled with one out and then Hailey Salyer doubled in Simmons and Moody to close out the scoring.
North Central will host White River Valley at 5 p.m. today in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference game.
