Sullivan wins WIC game
Sullivan remained undefeated in the Western Indiana Conference with a 10-0 victory over Greencastle in a high school baseball game at Sportland Field on Wednesday night.
Sullivan ended the game via the 10-run rule after scoring five runs in the sixth.
Sullivan was the visitor on their home field because Tuesday’s conference game at Greencastle was rained out.
Sam Steimel, who has been unable to pitch because of an elbow injury, made his first pitching appearance of the season.
He tossed two hitless innings. He walked three and struck out five, earning the win.
He threw 48 pitches, 24 strikes and 24 balls.
Kyle Vernelson allowed the only hit by the SHS pitching staff. He tossed three scoreless innings, striking out three and walking one.
Braedon Nichols fanned two and walked one in his only inning of relief.
Chris Taylor collected a double and two singles. He scored one run and drove in two.
Steimel had a double and Jack Conner, Eli Steimel and Max Mize each had a hit.
Conner and Brayton Foster each were credited with two RBIs while the Steimel brothers and Mize had one apiece.
Sam Steimel scored three runs and Cam Walters and Shane Garner had two runs each. Conner and Karter Vernelson each scored one run.
SHS (11-2 overall, 3-0 in the WIC) will host Marshall, Illinois at 5 p.m. today.
