Steimel pitches four innings in 6-2 victory
Senior right-hander Sam Steimel made his second appearance of the season, throwing four innings to help the Sullivan baseball team, ranked No. 10 in 3A, to a 6-2 victory over visiting Washington on Wednesday.
Steimel allowed three hits and two runs. He struck out four, walked one and hit a batter as he earned his first decision of the season.
Chris Taylor allowed one hit and walked one in his two innings of scoreless relief.
Braedon Nichols tossed a scoreless seventh inning.
Sullivan led off the game with a home run by Taylor and Shane Garner on consecutive pitches as they jumped ahead 2-0.
Karter Vernelson hit a 3-run home run in the third to put the Golden Arrows ahead 6-0.
Taylor finished with two RBIs.
Jack Conner and Steimel each had a hit. Kaleb Thrasher had a hit and scored a run.
The Arrows will play at 5 p.m. Thursday at White River Valley and then host Riverton Parke on Friday, starting at 6 p.m.
