Memorial Day ceremony to honor veterans Friday
Every year, members of the Sullivan American Legion gather on the Friday before Memorial Day to lay an American flag on every veteran’s tombstone in the city of Sullivan.
With COVID-19 raising concerns for many of the regular volunteers, a group of 25 to 30 Sullivan citizens and American Legion members have stepped forward to contribute to the lasting tradition at 9 a.m. Friday.
This year, volunteers will gather at Center Ridge Cemetery to pay respects to over the 1,300 veterans who are buried in Sullivan.
Dick Crooks, Center Ridge Cemetery Superintendent and Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb will both be on-site to further tell the story of the impact this has on a long-lasting community tradition.
