Indiana State Police conduct death investigation in Sullivan County
Indiana State Police are investigating a death following a routine traffic stop in Sullivan County.
The Sullivan City Police Department requested the assistance of the ISP on Sunday evening after SCPD Officer Mitchell Eberhardt initiated a traffic stop at U.S .41 and CR 300N near Sullivan.
“During the course of the traffic stop, he spoke to the driver, observed the male … passenger did not have a seatbelt on, or the
driver have their seatbelt on,” Sgt. Matt Ames of the ISP said.
“In the course of that conversation, he noticed that the male passenger was not responsive,” he continued.
Eberhardt immediately called for medical assistance and began first aid, including the use of an automated external defibrillator, with no response.
The individual, identified as Cosme L. Guzman, 48, of Princeton, was then transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Ames said this is currently an ongoing death investigation. The ISP will continue working with the Sullivan County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy has been scheduled for today at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
