Learn about the burden of tobacco and vaping in our community
Sullivan Tobacco Prevention and Cessation and Tobacco-Free Vigo
Coalitions will be hosting a free virtual "Community Conversation
about The Burden of Tobacco and Vaping in our Community."
The virtual event is on Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. The event will bring to light
how big tobacco markets to those most vulnerable, our children.
Panelists include counselors, principals, board members, school
resource officers and teens from Vigo and Southwest School
Big Tobacco is spending nearly $300 million a year to target new
customers — teenagers — in Indiana. The use of marketing techniques at
the point of sale attributes to teens starting this deadly habit. It
also makes it harder for teens and adults to quit. The availability of
flavors contributes to the fact that 1 in 3 high school students have
vaped. Big Tobacco knows that nearly 90% of lifelong smokers start
before the age of 18, and most teens use flavored products. Their
marketing tactics work.
Our esteemed panel from SWSC and VCSC will share their experiences
with the tobacco and vaping epidemic in the schools. We will also
share what you can do to get involved and combat Big Tobacco’s deadly
