DUCS launches new Career and Media Center

By Times Staff

Dugger Union Community Schools has recently launched their new Career
and Media Center.

This project has been a long time in the making and made possible by
the dedication of their counselor Shannon Gerig, who put together a
committee to shape the vision for this space over a year ago and has
not given up on her vision.

According to DUCS, the mission of the Career Media Center is to
prepare its students to become active and effective users of
information, promote a lifelong love of reading and learning and to
provide materials that support their academic, career, social and
technology goals.

Students will have the opportunity to read, explore, be creative and
make a variety of things in this space with lots of different
machinery and gadgets, which will help them to be more prepared in
their futures.

COVID-19 has thrown a challenge of not being able to visit the space
to keep students safe, so they used the STEM Takeout Kits to bring
Maker Ed to each classroom.

The school has collaborated with Fishers-based 1st Maker Space to help
create this innovative space.

"We can’t wait to continue the partnership and open up opportunities
for hands-on learning across all grade levels," stated 1st Maker
