Lueking sisters lead Sullivan victory
With the match tied at 2-2, Sullivan’s No. 1 doubles duo of sister Brooke and Courtney Lueking defeated Ella Beardsley/Chloe Rippy, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 as the Lady Arrows edged host South Vermillion 3-2 in a high school girls tennis match on Monday.
With the win, the Lady Arrows improved to 7-3.
“I have to give credit to my dad and assistant coach Ben Kirk,” said SHS head coach Wes Kirk. “Dad did a good job of coaching Brooke and Courtney at No. 1 doubles because I was trying to get to the other positions.
“It was good to see Brooke and Courtney really step up and win in a pressure situation. It was great play by them and great coaching by dad.”
Peyton Sisil and Annie Smith won in straight sets at No. 2 and 3 singles.
“Peyton and Annie were both in control,” said Wes. “Abbie (Pirtle) ran into a buzz saw with Elizabeth Tindera of South Vermillion at one singles. She might be one of the best players we will see all year.
“Sydney (Greggs) and Lexi (Baker) battled but came up short at two doubles. We are still trying to make some adjustments with them.”
Wes added that the JV got a good victory, defeating the Wildcats 4-2.
Sullivan will host West Vigo in a Western Indiana Conference contest on Wednesday.
