SDT announces All-County Softball Team
The Sullivan Daily Times is proud to announce its 2019 All-County softball team.
There were 17 girls that were ultimately selected, including five from Dugger Union and six each from North Central and Sullivan.
There are five freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and eight seniors.
The players are listed below in alphabetical order.
Jocelyn Cox, North Central, Soph. — Cox started at third base for the second consecutive season for the Ladybirds.
She led North Central with a .509 average.
She tied for the team lead in home runs and also had 31 RBIs, 29 hits and 27 runs scored.
Cox had nine doubles and six triples.
She had a .921 fielding percentage.
Shoni Dinkins, Dugger Union, Jr. — Dinkins was a starter at third base for the Lady Bulldogs.
She had a team-best fielding percentage of .958.
Dinkins led the Lady Bulldogs with a .448 batting average. She finished with 11 RBIs, four doubles, one triple and three home runs.
Dinkins also was 8-for-8 on stolen bases.
Kendal Edmondson, Sullivan, Fr. — The Clay City transfer became the top pitcher for the Lady Arrows, earning All-Western Indiana Conference honors.
She led the Lady Arrows with 75 strikeouts and had an ERA of 2.02.
Edmondson also batted .329 to go with 19 runs scored and six RBIs.
Stormy Kinnard, Dugger Union, Fr. — Kinnard had a fielding percentage of .825.
She batted .278 with 11 runs, 10 hits, seven RBIs and four doubles.
She led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 stolen bases in as many attempts.
Brooklin Klitzing, North Central, Soph. — Klitzing started in left field for a second consecutive season.
The lefty batted. 333.
She collected 24 runs, 20 hits, 17 RBIs and three doubles.
Morgan Manning, North Central, Sr. — Manning signed a letter-of-intentto play softball at Lincoln Trail College.
Manning, who played both infield and outfield and some at catcher, was second for the Ladybirds with a .476 batting average.
Manning had 40 hits, scored 11 runs and knocked in 29 runs.
Manning also had 11 doubles and two home runs.
Madison Marlow, Dugger Union, Sr. — Marlow signed to play softball at Oakland City University.
The right-handed pitcher had a 2.72 ERA.
She struck out 48 and walked 18 in her innings pitched.
Marlow hit .286 with one double, one triple and one home run. Marlow also was 5 of 5 on stolen bases.
Mia Marlow, Dugger Union, Fr. — Marlow made an immediateimpact for the Lady Bulldogs as a freshman.
She was second for Dugger Union, batting .406. She scored 14 runs and a team-best 12 RBIs.
Marlow collected two doubles, two triples and two home runs to go with six stolen bases in as many attempts.
Kaelee Moody, North Central, Sr. — Moody will be playing softball next season at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Moody batted .346 as a senior.
The center fielder finished with 28 runs, 28 RBIs and 28 hits.
She collected five doubles, three triples, two home runs and seven stolen bases.
Mollie Pittman, Dugger Union, Sr. — Pittman caught virtually inning for the Lady Bulldogs.
Pittman batted .316 and finished with 10 runs and 12 hits. She had three doubles and knocked in seven runs.
Pittman was a perfect 6-for-6 on stolen bases.
Asia Povlin, Sullivan, Jr. — Povlin won the Fuzz Harris Award and the Gold Glove for the Lady Arrows as a junior center fielder.
Povlin batted .318 with six home runs and 14 RBIs. She scored 39 runs as the leadoff hitter.
Madison Schofield, North Central, Sr. — Schofield will be playing softball next year at Danville Area Community College.
Schofield batted .415 with 34 hits.
The shortstop scored 37 runs and collected 24 RBIs.
She also contributed nine doubles, six triples and three home runs.
She finished as the career leader in home runs.
Delainey Shorter, Sullivan, Fr. — Shorter led the Lady Arrows in hits with 37.
She batted .430 with five home runs and 28 RBIs. She also scored 34 runs.
She was an All-Western Indiana Conference selection.
Gracie Shorter, Sullivan, Fr. — Shorter had a record-setting year for the Lady Arrows.
Shorter set school records for RBIs in a season, 30; home runs in a season, 7; and runs scored in a season, 44.
She also led the team in hitting at .478. Her 30 RBIs tied for the team lead.
Erika Shroyer, North Central, Sr. — Shroyer pitched virtually every inning the past two seasons for the Ladybirds.
This season, Shroyer posted a 14-8 mark with a 2.11 ERA.
The right-hander struck out 57 and walked 20 in 129 1/3 innings.
At the plate, Shroyer batted .410.
She had 18 runs, 32 hits and 28 RBIs.
Shroyer also collected 10 doubles, two triples and five home runs.
Maclynne Steele, Sullivan, Sr. — Maclynne Steele will be playing softball in the fall for Danville Area Community College in Illinois.
Steele, who played primarily first base this season, batted .281 for the Ladybirds.
She had 15 runs and 22 RBIs. She had seven doubles and two home runs.
She was one of the leaders with a .953 fielding percentage.
Abbey Wardell, Sullivan, Sr. — Wardell will be playing soccer at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in the fall.
The four-year starter in the outfield for the Lady Arrows set the school record for RBIs in a season with 30.
She had five doubles and scored 26 runs and finished with a .341 batting average.
She also had 30 hits.
