North Central runs short-handed at SWIAC
Both the North Central girls and boys cross country teams competed at the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference championships on Saturday at Shakamak High School.
Neither NCHS squad had the required five runners to compile a team score.
For the Ladybirds, freshman Mallorie Cochran finished 28th with a time of 24 minutes and 59.9 seconds.
Also running for the NC girls were Raygann Richards (38th, 30:02.4) and Sarah Harris (31:01.7).
For the North Central boys, junior Zack Weir returned and placed 25th. His time was 18:34.4.
Also finishing for the Thunderbirds included sophomore Adam Walker (31st, 19:11.2), Will Roberts (42nd, 21:10.6) and Brandon Lee (21.44.3).
“Wyatt Harris woke up sick this morning so he did not run,” said North Central coach Jeff Ransford. “The girls were without Kayla Goldsworthy and Alexa Crouch.
“Zack was able to run this week after not running most of the week with an injury and ran one of his best times of the year. Adam ran a personal best time. Will and Brandon ran season best times as well.
Mallorie had another good race and ran a personal best Raygann ran a season best today.”
Ransford said that he hopes to have everyone available for the sectional.
“The kids did a really good job today,” he said. “It shows that their hard work is paying off.”
North Central will host Sullivan on Tuesday before competing at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course as Terre Haute North hosts the sectional on Saturday.
