Sullivan jumped out to a 14-1 lead and never looked back as the host Lady Arrows defeated visiting Owen Valley 48-39 in a high school girls basketball game on Saturday.

Sullivan pushed its record to 2-0.

Six different players scored as the Lady Arrows led 18-7 after the opening eight minutes.

Gracie Shorter led the winners with 15 points. Sister Delainey Shorter added 11.

Coach Julie Meeks was pleased with the play of her bench.

“Alexis Grindstaff stepped up when (Klaire) Williams got into foul trouble,” said Meeks. “Grindstaff was making a difference defensively and finished with six points.”

Brionna Perkinson finished with two points, seven rebounds and five assists.

“Brionna had an excellent game defensively,” said Meeks. “She was making scrappy plays throughout the game.”

Owen Valley won the JV contest.

Sullivan will play at White River Valley on Tuesday, starting with the junior varsity game at 6 p.m.
