SWITZ CITY — Sullivan had five players score in double figures and nine of 10 players that dressed scored as the visiting Golden Arrows cruised to a 97-52 victory over White River Valley in a high school boys basketball game on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Jeff Moore, who earned his 458th win at Sullivan, said you never know what might happen. It was just two years ago when the Wolverines defeated Sullivan 64-52.

“We prepared for WRV just like any other opponent,” said Moore. “I watched four hours of tape getting ready for them.

“You never know what might happen. I have seen some strange things in my career.”

But the now 11-2 Golden Arrows dominated the now 1-12 Wolverines.

“We knew if we came out and played well this could be an easy win,” said Moore. “Our pressure bothered them and we got some steals and turned them into some easy baskets early.

“We shot the ball well and ran the floor well. We still need to improve on defense. But that is going to be a season-long project.”

Jackson Hills missed three of his first four shots, but he made 12 of 16 to end the game. Hills, who had 10 points as Sullivan led 27-10 after the first quarter, was 13 of 20 overall and 2 of 3 at the foul line as he poured in a season-high 28 points to go with nine rebounds, one steal and one assist.

“Jackson was very active,” said Moore. “We got the ball inside and he was knocking down shots.”

Sullivan put up another 27 points in the second stanza as the Golden Arrows led 54-23 at the half. The Arrows, who had 25 assists on 41 baskets, led 75-41 after three quarters.

Braden Flanagan made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points.

Randy Kelley and Luke Adams each scored 14 points and Rocco Roshel made four triples to finish with 12.

Adams and Kelley each dished out six assists and Kelley had three steals and Adams had two.

“It was good to see everybody get a chance to play today,” Moore said of using all 10 players on the SHS varsity roster. “It was good for Rocco and Luke to see the ball go in the basket for their confidence.

“Against some teams, they don’t get a lot of open looks. Today they did and took advantage of them.”

Sullivan was 41 of 76 from the field, 54%. They made 9 of 22 on 3-pointers, 41%. Gabe Pirtle collected five rebounds and four points while Will King and Eli Steimel each added two points and Jack Ridgway scored three.

Andrew Ellett scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half to pace WRV.

There was no JV game.

Sullivan will play a Western Indiana Conference game at Brown County on Friday before hosting Eastern Greene on Saturday.
