Gilbert to wrestle Friday morning at state finals

Wrestlers in weight classes 152-285 will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. The quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals, are set to start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The consolation round will begin at 5 p.m. with the championship matches set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Gilbert's first opponent will be Justin Puckett of Northridge. The senior has a 30-4 record while Gilbert is 27-0. The winner of that first-round match would face the winner of Nathaniel Hennessey, a senior from Seeger with a 23-2 record vs. Braxton Vest, a junior from Westfield with a 33-2 mark, match. Gilbert finished fourth in the 113-pound weight class last year as a freshman, the best in the history of the SHS wrestling program.
