Tennis team starts with a victory

The Sullivan girls tennis team played for the first time in two seasons, defeating visiting White River Valley 5-0 in a high school match on Tuesday.

Hanna Burkhart, Paige Chickadaunce and Annie Smith won at singles while the No. 1 doubles team of Peyton Sisil and Sarah Francis also won in straight sets.

At No. 2 doubles, Courtney Lueking and Lexie Baker won by forfeit as WRV only had five players.

“Paige, Hanna and Sarah played in their first varsity match,” said Sullivan coach Wes Kirk. “It was good for them to get a win in their first match on the varsity.

“This was a good way to start the season. I wished they would have had a few more players so we could have played a few more matches.”

Sullivan will play at South Knox on Wednesday.
